Should a stone foundation be sealed from the inside?
Generally not. Stone and lime mortar were built to pass moisture rather than block it, and coating the inner face traps water inside the wall where it does more harm. Managing what reaches the outside of the wall, and the humidity in the space, achieves far more.
Why is July the wettest month rather than a winter one?
Summer convection supplies more rainfall here than winter systems do. It is actually the easier arrangement: July rain meets active vegetation and high evaporation, so a good share leaves on its own. The same total in December would sit in the ground until spring.
What is the main risk in housing this old?
That every assumption behind it is pre-modern. Nine in ten units here predate 1990 and most predate the 1950s, so perimeter drainage, damp-proofing and vapor control were never part of the build. The house depends on surface water management that nobody documented.
