Is there any month when a crawlspace here actually dries out?
Late summer, if then, and not by much. November through March is a single wet season, and December's 7.55 inches is the peak of it, not a storm between dry spells. Planning a drying window in January is planning against the gauge, and the wood will still be wet when you open the hatch.
Vents were supposed to help. They seem to make the wood wetter.
In this climate they often do. Wet winter air on cold joists is condensation, and the original vent idea came from a drier winter than the Willamette has. Closing the space to outside air and dehumidifying is the reversal a 45-inch valley needs.
We are on the valley floor, not the hill. Still a shedding problem?
A water-table problem instead. The floor is silt with a high winter table; the hills are runoff. A wet crawl on the floor is often groundwater, and a wet crawl on the hill is often the lot above. The repair follows the source, not the city name.
