Age is not drainage. A 1999 slab on Piedmont clay still perches September rain, and unlike a Durham crawl it hides the water until a stain or a cupping floor appears. Newness meant a vapor retarder of some kind. It did not mean the swale was moved. The clay and Crabtree were here first.
Durham is September on Triassic clay. Is this the same basin?
Cary is Piedmont, not the Durham Triassic rift, and the housing is a generation newer and mostly slab. The tropical month is shared. The ground and the assembly are not. Durham's older crawls show the perched water. These slabs conceal it. Copying a Hayti crawl story onto a Cary slab misses both the clay type and the hiding place.
The yard was professionally graded. Why is the slab still wet after September?
Because the clay perches water under the slab, not just on the lawn. Surface grade can look perfect and the field-drain swale under the pad can still hold September's 5.98 inches. Grading is the yard. The perched table is the pad. They are not the same repair.
