Because that side is retaining ground rather than enclosing space. On a hillside lot, subsurface water moves downslope and meets the first thing cut into the hill, which is the uphill foundation wall. The downhill side never experiences the same pressure, so the asymmetry is expected.

The distribution matters more than the total. Nearly all of it falls between November and March, so the soil is loaded continuously for months rather than wetting and drying. Sustained pressure on a wall does more than a larger annual figure spread evenly across the year.
Does bay proximity affect a crawlspace?
